Welcome to the St. Lawrence County STEM Partnership

The St. Lawrence County STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Partnership is enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of 200 teachers teaching science, technology, and math. This partnership between all 18 St. Lawrence County School Districts, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, and STEM Institute of Higher Education department at Clarkson University are at the core of these improvement efforts.

Conference for Educators of Grades 4 through 12 on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY 13676.

The St. Lawrence County STEM Partnership and the St. Lawrence Valley Teachers’ Learning Center, SUNY Potsdam have created a one of a kind Staff Development day that will be hosted by Clarkson University on March 20th, 2008.

Staff will start the day by attending either Stager’s keynote address Constructing Modern Knowledge: A Computational Approach to Science, Math, and Technology or Visual Tools for Inclusion and Differentiation with Roger Essley (http://www.rogeressley.com/).

Gary Stager is an internationally recognized educator, speaker and consultant whom has helped learners of all ages on six continents embrace the power of computers as intellectual laboratories and vehicles for self-expression.

Essley will provide a high energy, no-nonsense, inspiring presentation on using story boarding to improve student motivation and achievement in ALL subject areas. He specializes in improving reading and writing achievement. Roger will tie his visual tools sessions into the use of technology aspect of the conference and his visual tools for the classroom can be used in any subject area classroom.

Following the keynote an array of 15 breakout sessions during each of three separate time slots throughout the day which will include strands for grades 4-12 math, gr. 7-12 science, gr. 4-12 literacy, gr. 4-12 math/science/technology, and gr. 4-12 Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM).
