Objective:
Students will work in groups to determine the different ways to create “target numbers” using a variety of numerical expressions.
Instructional Plan:
- Arrange students into groups f 3 or 4 (one resource room group)
- Explain the objective to the group of students
- Practice the objective as a whole group with teacher modeling a few times
- Have Students work in a group working on writing expressions for the target numbers while teacher observes and assists if needed.
- Allow students to continue working until about 8 minutes are left in the period, and then discuss their target numbers, and different expressions used. Discuss who in the group got closest to their target number. Write some expressions on the board, check the math. Discuss any alternate suggestions from others in the group.
Assessment: Teacher observation of skill and understanding. hand in Target Number page for teacher to check for accurate math.
