Summer Research Opportunities in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at Clarkson University for Middle School and High School Math and Science Teachers

June 29 - August 7, 2009
There are two opportunities to conduct environmental research with faculty mentors at Clarkson University for six weeks during the summer (June 29 – August 7, 2009). The selected teachers will also participate in seminars on environmental topics, field trips, and other activities as part of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program (details at: www.clarkson.edu/reu/). In addition, the selected teachers will develop project-based curricula to implement in their classes during the 2009-10 academic year. Each participant will receive a stipend of $3,500 for the summer research, $1,000 for classroom supplies, and $1,500 for implementation of project-based curriculum. The project-based curricula that are developed for this activity must be submitted for peer review through the STEM Partnership program. This opportunity is sponsored by the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Teachers program and conducted in collaboration with an NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates grant and NYSED STEM Partnership program.
